With three-part vocals, two guitars, percussion, penny whistle, and harmonica, their music has been labeled “folk” (to which their dead-on covers of Peter, Paul, and Mary and Crosby, Stills & Nash can attest), but such a label cannot do justice to their unique repertoire (which also includes songs from artists as decidedly not folk as The Replacements, Marshall Crenshaw, The Cure, Nathan, and The Beatles). Their performances are ear-opening musical journeys that will have you chuckling at John Prine’s wit, pondering the poignancy of Norah Jones, and singing along with Herman’s Hermits’ “I’m Into Something Good.”
The Cat Sank Trio’s music is as diverse and eclectic as it sounds, but they weave it all together with an amazing thread of personality and performance to make it all Cat Sank music, unflinchingly mixing songs you love but thought you’d never hear again with songs you may have never heard but won’t wait to hear again. They’re equally comfortable providing background music tucked behind the tree at your company Christmas party as they are commanding your attention from a concert stage. If you’re looking to add a unique ingredient to your function, consider the Cat Sank Trio.
